McCain picks up island delegates

Those from Puerto Rico, American Samoa and the Northern Marianas boost his tally to 996 of the 1,191 needed for the nomination.

Republicans in Puerto Rico awarded all 20 delegates at stake Sunday to Arizona Sen. John McCain.

The delegates from Puerto Rico helped McCain move closer to the GOP presidential nomination, giving him 996 delegates. It takes 1,191 delegates to secure the nomination.

On Saturday, McCain picked up the nine delegates in American Samoa, and nine from the Northern Mariana Islands.
