A weekly look at how UCLA's Kevin Love and USC's O.J. Mayo stack up against the best of the nation's freshman class. This week, Donte Greene of Syracuse takes a turn in the spot usually held by Memphis point guard Derrick Rose.

Michael Beasley, Kansas State

* Season stats: 24.3 ppg, 13.3 rpg.

* What he's done lately: Beasley was held to single-digits scoring for the first time this season when he scored five points against Xavier, failing to make a basket until the final minute. He rebounded with a 25-point, 10-rebound performance Monday against Savannah State.

* What's ahead: Saturday at Oklahoma.

Eric Gordon, Indiana

* Season stats: 23.5 ppg, 43.4 3-pt. FG%.

* What he's done lately: Gordon scored 25 points in a victory over Iowa, making two of five three-point attempts. He has been held to single digits only once, in a game when he played only 12 minutes because of an injury.

* What's ahead: Today at Michigan, Sunday vs. Illinois.

Kevin Love, UCLA

* Season stats: 16.5 ppg, 10.2 rpg.

* What he's done lately: Love's introduction to some of the Pacific 10 Conference's big men went well. He did his job defensively, and finished with 15 points and seven rebounds against Stanford and 19 points and 14 rebounds against California.

* What's ahead: Thursday vs. Washington, Saturday vs. Washington State.

O.J. Mayo, USC

* Season stats: 20.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg.

* What he's done lately: One game after scoring a career-high 34 points in a loss to California, Mayo was held to 14 points in a loss to Stanford and made only five of 19 shots, finishing with five turnovers and no assists.

* What's ahead: Thursday vs. Washington State, Saturday vs. Washington.

Donte Greene, Syracuse

* Season stats: 19.1 ppg, 7.8 rpg.

* What he's done lately: The 6-11 forward opened the Big East season with a 22-point performance against St. John's and a 21-point game against South Florida, and is shooting almost 41% from three-point range.

* What's ahead: Wednesday at Cincinnati, Sunday at West Virginia.
