Orange County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man they said stole a patrol car and ran over a deputy's foot, authorities said Saturday.

About 7 p.m. Friday two deputies approached a suspicious person, authorities said. The man jumped into a patrol car and drove over a deputy's foot before the officers opened fire.

The car hit a light pole and the man was taken to a local hospital, where he died. The deputy was treated for minor injuries.
