Screenwriter Avary expresses condolences in statement on car wreck death
The Oscar-winning co-writer of the film "Pulp Fiction," who was accused of driving drunk when he was involved in a fatal car accident over the weekend, released a statement today expressing his "heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased."
Roger Avary, 42, was behind the wheel early Sunday morning when the accident took place in Ojai. According to authorities, Avary's wife, Gretchen, 40, was ejected from the back seat; she was taken to Ojai Valley Community Hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger, Andreas Zedini, 34, of Italy, died at Ventura County Medical Center after county firefighters had to extricate him from the vehicle.
According to the statement released by Avary's representative, "Roger wishes to publicly convey his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. Words cannot express how sorry he is, and this tragic accident will always haunt him."
Avary was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and was booked briefly into Ventura County Jail before he posted $50,000 bail.
Avary was co-writer and executive producer of the recent movie "Beowulf." He won an Academy Award for co-writing the 1994 movie "Pulp Fiction" with director Quentin Tarantino.
