Sparano expected to become coach of Dolphins
Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano landed Tuesday evening in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., aboard a jet belonging to Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga for a second interview with the team’s new regime.
Sparano was accompanied by new General Manager Jeff Ireland. They met for an interview in Dallas on Jan. 5.
Sparano is expected to talk today with Huizenga and new Dolphins boss Bill Parcells – and then probably become Miami’s fifth coach since 2004. A team spokesman declined to comment.
Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett spent more than six hours interviewing for the head coaching job of the Baltimore Ravens but left the team’s training facility without filling the vacancy.
Garrett, 41, was the first person to receive a second interview for the job.
Seattle Seahawks defensive backs coach Jim Mora will interview today for the Washington Redskins’ head coaching job.
Mora is among five known candidates to replace Joe Gibbs, who resigned last week.
He is seeking his second head coaching job after having a 27-23 record in three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, including an appearance in the NFC championship game in 2005, before he was fired a year ago.
