A book that goes BOMP!
A BOOK THAT GOES BOMP!
Bridging the gap between psych and punk, BOMP! magazine presided over the burgeoning power-pop scene of the 1970s, featuring contributions from the likes of Lester Bands and Greil Marcus and becoming the paper of record for rock ‘n’ roll-addled nerds the world over. Downtown L.A.-based AMMO Books has released “BOMP! Saving the World One Record at a Time,” chronicling the zine and the label founded by the late Greg Shaw. Authors Suzy Shaw (Greg’s ex-wife and longtime business partner) and Mick Farren will be on hand to sign copies, and Joe and Mike Nolte of the band the Last will perform. 6 p.m. Sat., La Luz de Jesus Gallery, 323-666-7667; www.laluzdejesus.com
