THE TOLL OF OFF-ROADING
Re “Kicking Up Sand,” [Jan. 10]:
The continued popularity of off-road vehicles (ORVs) such as side-by-sides poses crushing problems for land managers and natural areas across America. Not only do these machines cause damage to the soil, plants and wildlife, the racket of their engines carries for miles and ruins the outdoor experience for people who visit quietly.

ONE MORE FOR GROBAN
Re Overrated [Dec. 27]:
Josh Groban is hardly undistinguished. He is one of the few pop singers who actually has a voice worth listening to. Beyoncé is another. Most of the rest are infantile screamers and whiners.
Maybe one day humans will grow up and put aside the noise-makers for voices like Groban and Beyoncé, and pop music will leave a meaningful legacy again.
