Sea of Tranquility’: The new in New Mexico

THE NEW IN NEW MEXICO

Santa Fe, N.M., is the new California. In other words, it’s a place where people go to start over, says Michael Bloom. At least that’s the premise at the center of Howard Korder’s dark comedy “Sea of Tranquility,” which Bloom is directing at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Rather than strike out for the Golden State, the play’s central character, a psychologist, (Ted Koch, pictured) relocates from the East Coast to Santa Fe in search of a new life. In a humorous twist of fate, the therapist’s new clients – including a runaway and a prison inmate – contribute to his eventual breakdown. “He attempts to fix everyone he meets … and eventually it comes back to haunt him,” Bloom adds. 7 p.m. Sun., Tue., Wed.; 8 p.m. Thu.-Sat.; 2 p.m. Sat.-Sun. Ends Feb. 10. $19-$59. (619) 234-5623; www.theoldglobe.org
