THE SCOUT: SEEN

Smoke and mirroring

January 24, 2008

In the gallery show "I'm the Most Normal Person I Know," opening Saturday, fine-art photographer Chris Anthony revisits the 19th century environments he remembers as a child in his native Stockholm. "Most of my work is set in a pseudo-Victorian and Edwardian worlds," he says. "It's rich and full of texture." Anthony designed other haunting tableaux, such as the opium smoker in "Sleep Still in Your Eyes," in the old Rudolph Valentino suite of the historic Alexandria Hotel in downtown L.A. Other photos were taken with 1860s camera lenses in Anthony's 1920s Hansel-and-Gretel Tudor apartment in Hancock Park. Through Feb. 16 at Corey Helford Gallery, 8522 Washington Blvd., Culver City; (310) 287-2340; www.chris-anthony.com.
