John Lautner's architecture in films at Billy Wilder Theater
MORE THAN LAUTNER
In "Less Than Zero," Robert Downey Jr. appears at Andrew McCarthy's house, ravaged by drug addiction. Their conversation is already haunting, but Silvertop, the John Lautner house featured (above with McCarthy and Jamie Gertz), imbues it with a sense of glamorous dread. The architect hated L.A., but he gave it some of its most iconic architecture, which has enjoyed screen time. As part of the Lautner exhibition "Between Earth and Heaven," the Hammer Museum will screen "Zero," plus "Diamonds Are Forever," "Body Double" and "The Big Lebowski." Starts 7 p.m. Fri.; ends Sun.; free. www.hammer.ucla.edu
