Late money coming in on Margarito

July 26, 2008|Lonnie White

Miguel Cotto, considered one of boxing's best pound-for-pound fighters, will enter the ring as the favorite for his World Boxing Assn. welterweight title bout against Antonio Margarito tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

But Cotto, who is 32-0 with 26 knockouts, has had his betting support slip since he opened as a 3-1 favorite several weeks ago.

With many late bets going to Margarito this week, Cotto's odds have changed to -265 as of Friday. Margarito, 36-5 with 26 knockouts, was listed at +205, according to Bodoglife.com.

The over/under round total for tonight's fight is 9 1/2 with the over listed at -210 and the under at +170.

There are also plenty of proposition bets available. Win by knockout, technical knockout or disqualification: Cotto (27-10) or Margarito (16-5); win by decision: Cotto (13-10) or Margarito (25-4); draw (18-1); fight will go the distance (-150) or fight will not go the distance (+110).

Will fight go into round 11? Yes (-180) or no (+140). Will fight go into round 7? Yes (-500) or no (+300). According to Harold Lederman's scorecard, who will be ahead on points at the end of round three? Cotto (-260) or Margarito (+200).
