GAME OF THE DAY

Team meeting does no good for Phillies

July 26, 2008|From the Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- A pregame team meeting didn't help the Philadelphia Phillies, who lost for the fifth time in seven games since the All-Star break. Jair Jurrjens (10-5) pitched eight scoreless innings and Brian McCann hit two homers, including a grand slam, to lead the Atlanta Braves over the Phillies, 8-2, Friday night.

Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel said that "hopefully some of the things we talked about will be good for us" even if they didn't win.

McCann's second homer came off Brad Lidge during a seven-run ninth. Lidge, the All-Star closer who hasn't blown a save this season, had not given up a home run this year in 42 innings.

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins was 0 for 4 in his return to the lineup after being benched for arriving late to the ballpark Thursday.
