A man led officers on a high speed chase Tuesday in which he drove against freeway traffic and collided with a vehicle on a street intersection before running into a drug store, where he was caught, authorities said.
The chase began in Ventura County when the man, whose name was not immediately released, refused to pull over during a traffic stop, California Highway Patrol officer Miguel Luevano said.
The man led officers on a pursuit across the 118 Freeway to Interstate 405, at one point going against traffic on a lane mostly used by big rig trucks. When he drove down an offramp in Mission Hills in the San Fernando Valley, his sedan collided with a vehicle and he continued driving for a few yards before abandoning his car.
The crash did not cause any major injuries, Luevano said.
The suspect ran several blocks before ducking into a Rite Aid drug store. Officers ran into the store and came out with the man in custody.
