Law overruled in nationality case

June 05, 2008|From Times Wire Reports

Japan's Supreme Court ruled against a law that denied citizenship to children born out of wedlock to Japanese fathers and foreign mothers, a news report said.

Kyodo News agency reported that the court ruled in favor of 10 Japanese-Filipino children suing for citizenship in Japan. Nationality in Japan is determined by bloodline rather than place of birth.
