Firefighters treat woman found on tracks at Metro Red Line station

The victim, 40, was on an energized third rail at the Westlake/MacArthur Park stop this morning. Firefighters performed CPR before taking her to a hospital.

A 40-year-old woman was in critical condition this morning after she was hit by a Metro Red Line train and was found by firefighters on an energized third rail, officials said.

Firefighters were at the scene performing CPR on her, said Cecil Manresa, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. They planned to transport her shortly to a hospital, he said about 10:30 a.m.

Firefighters responded to the scene at the Westlake/MacArthur Park Metro station near Alvarado Street and Wilshire Boulevard about 9:45 a.m. Officials had to de-energize the third rail to get to the woman, Manresa said.

"At this point it looks like it may have been intentional, but that hasn't been confirmed," Manresa said.

Service on that line, at least at the station where the incident took place, was suspended as firefighters worked to treat the woman.
