LAX soliciting opinion sought

June 10, 2008|From Associated Press

A federal appeals court has asked the California Supreme Court to help it decide if the Hare Krishna religious organization can solicit donations at Los Angeles International Airport.

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday asked California's highest court to determine whether the airport is a "public forum" under state law.

Though the California Supreme Court doesn't have to answer the question, the federal appeals court says an answer would help decide the outcome of the Hare Krishna group's legal challenge to a Los Angeles law barring solicitations of donations at the airport.
