Disney's 'High School Musical' comes to Orange County Performing Artscenter
BIGGER AND BIGGER
The juggernaut that is Disney's "High School Musical" has jumped the tracks from TV to stage and is rolling across the country, pulling into Costa Mesa's Orange County Performing Artscenter beginning Tuesday. Usually one would expect such an adaptation to be scaled down in one way or another, but the opposite is true here: Expect full-blown sets, a live band, two additional songs and a cast of dozens. That cast includes Orange native Michael Mahany (playing Jack Scott, a DJ-cum-Greek chorus written specifically for the stage adaptation). "I remember being a kid sitting in the audience [at the Artscenter] and thinking, 'Maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to be in a show that comes through here,' " Mahany reminisces. "Now that's going to happen." 7:30 p.m. Tue.-Fri., 2 and 7:30 p.m. June 21, 1 and 6:30 p.m. June 22, ends June 22. 600 Town Center Drive. $23.25-$73.25. (714) 556-2787; www.ocpac.org
