Braves' Chipper Jones misses tonight's game
Atlanta's Chipper Jones, the major league's leading hitter with a .414 average, was scratched from the Braves' lineup 25 minutes before tonight's interleague game with the Angels after being hit above the left eye with a ball during batting practice.
Jones was struck by a ball that first hit the crossbar of the batting cage and ricocheted into his face. He immediately fell to one knee in obvious pain. Two trainers rushed to his aid and helped him back to the Braves' clubhouse, where he was treated for a contusion. He was later taken to the hospital for precautionary X-rays.
Jones, who also leads the majors in on-base percentage (.500) and hits (94), missed a game earlier this week with a small tear in his right quadriceps.
He was replaced at third base Friday by Omar Infante.
