Combs checks in with the kids about 'Raisin'

June 15, 2008|SUSAN KING

Sean COMBS, a.k.a. Diddy, P. Diddy, Puff Daddy and Puffy, has conquered the worlds of rap music, record producing and clothing design. This spring, he and the main Broadway cast reprised their roles in the ABC movie version of "A Raisin in the Sun." He and his costars Phylicia Rashad, Audra McDonald and Sanaa Lathan are being touted for Emmy nomination consideration.

Have younger generations discussed "Raisin" with you?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The interesting thing about it is that it relates to them right now. When I speak to them, they don't really talk about the time period it was in. They kind of relate to what's going on -- the president just gave people $600 and they were happy. So imagine there are people who had a chance to get a $10,000 check -- they are really talking about their lives being changed. There is probably a family in New Orleans going through the same situation [as the Youngers], waiting for a $10,000 check, and they all have plans for it.
