POP MUSICDeath Cab for Cutie Seattle is one of those outposts whose rock scene draws a map of urban progress: It was an aerospace factory town when raw garage sound dominated and recession prone when moody grunge was in style. Now, the shiny Microsoft boom has inspired technologically savvy, clean-cut believers in progress, like this band, which is known for its singer's sensitivity but should be famous for its guitarist-producer's way with switches and knobs. Nokia Theatre, 777 Chick Hearn Court, Los Angeles. 8 p.m. $40. (213) 763-6020.
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Another unexpected union of disparate musicians that proves the rule that there are no rules that can't be broken. The once-demonic voice of Led Zep finds an ideal partner in the heavenly singing of the bluegrass queen on their album "Raising Sand," in which whispers and sighs pack more punch than shrieks and screams. Greek Theatre, 2700 N. Vermont Ave., L.A. 8 p.m.; also Tuesday. $49 to $125. (323) 665-5857.
