Elections panel filled

June 25, 2008|From Times Wire Reports

The U.S. Senate approved five nominees to the Federal Election Commission, ending a standoff over the panel's membership that has left it without the quorum needed to operate since December.

The chamber approved by voice vote three Republican nominees and a pair of Democrats, giving the six-member panel the numbers it needs to begin policing the fundraising and spending practices of this year's presidential and congressional campaigns.
