Three killed in alleged family feud

Angry that her parents demanded she break up with her boyfriend, a 16-year-old helped kill her mother and two younger brothers during a grisly ambush on the family’s wooded home in Emory, about 60 miles northeast of Dallas, authorities said.

The girl, whose name is not being released, joined her boyfriend and two others in shooting and stabbing members of the Caffey family in their bedrooms before setting the house on fire, authorities said.

The lone survivor was Terry Caffey, the father, who was shot five times. The dead were Penny Caffey, 37, and sons Tyler, 8, and Mathew, 13.

NEVADA

Counts dismissed in cellphone case

Charges have been dismissed against a Fallon driver accused of killing a 12-year-old bicyclist while making a cellphone call in August 2006.

Under an agreement accepted by Justice of the Peace Terry Graham, Richard Hutchings will pay $1.3 million to the family of victim of Jeremiah Horne in return for the dismissal of a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge.

The Horne family requested that Hutchings not be prosecuted, local newspapers reported.

The Hornes and Hutchingses belong to the same church.

ALABAMA

Ex-activist held in hospital dispute

Former Chicago alderman and civil rights activist Dorothy Tillman was arrested and charged with trespassing at a hospital in her native Montgomery.

The arrest came after a confrontation at the hospital over access to medical records for Tillman’s 86-year-old aunt.

When Tillman was a teenager, she worked as a civil rights activist for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
