Not Another Baby Daddy

SHOPPING
THE LIST

March 16, 2008

In the earliest days of parenthood, most fathers have trouble finding time to shower and shave. Not Joel Madden. Yesterday, the Good Charlotte frontman and tabloid fixture (he's Nicole Richie's baby's daddy) unveiled a flagship home for the street-wear line he designs with brothers Benji, Josh and longtime pal Tal Cooperman. Partnering in this retail foray is Aaron Levant, who began the now-international Agenda street-wear trade show before he could legally buy a beer.

The shop, which has its own skateboard bowl, will carry DCMA Collective's full line of sinister hoodies emblazoned with skull and crossbones, tees, shoes and accessories for men and women. Many pieces feature the work of Cooperman's Seventh Letter graffiti crew. Exclusive T-shirt and jewelry designs are also available.

"We wanted to create something that represents us," Madden says. He counts friend and pro skateboarder Chad Muska among the DJs, musicians and artists who inspire him. "It's just a big group of people that share similar interests," Madden says.

Even his daughter Harlow is part of the club; she's been wearing the line's heart-and-brass-knuckle print onesie ($26). Next up: more kids-wear in colors other than black. Madden realizes the gloomy hue doesn't do justice to his bundle of joy. "Babies look so much cuter in colors."

A+R Pop-Up through March 30: Gen Art's New Garde fashion program showcasing up-and-coming designers is turning 5. Edit: At the tender age of 26, Navin Megji already has had stints at InStyle and Dolce & Gabanna. And now she's opening her own store (lucky girl), bringing high-waist jeans, floaty tops and artsy dresses from contemporary brands 18th Amendment, Paul & Joe and Lerario Beatriz to the ladies in her tony neighborhood. 11958 San Vicente Blvd., Los Angeles. (310) 826-6600. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. www.editca.com
