3 men captured during DEA sting at Orange motel

SWAT officers from the Orange Police Department were called for assistance after an assault rifle was found outside a room.

Three suspects were captured this morning when they tried to flee a motel room in Orange during an undercover operation by Drug Enforcement Administration agents.

SWAT officers from the Orange Police Department responded to a call for assistance and surrounded the motel in the 1800 block of West Chapman Avenue, said Orange police Sgt. Dan Adams.

Adams said the federal agents requested the backup after recovering an assault rifle outside one of two rooms apparently rented by the suspects, all men. The SWAT team still had the motel surrounded at noon, believing that other armed suspects may be holed up inside the rooms.

No shots had been fired and there was no further information about the men.
