Two Bay Area arts institutions have new leaders.

Stephen Beal, provost of the California College of the Arts, has been promoted to the position of president. He succeeds Michael S. Roth, who resigned to become president of Wesleyan University.

Lawrence Rinder, a dean at CCA and a former curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, has been named director of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, where he will oversee the construction of a new building designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito.
