Tampa Bay 8, at Baltimore 1: Andy Sonnanstine (4-1) allowed one run in eight innings, Erik Hinske homered and the Rays completed the first winning April (14-12) in franchise history. Sonnanstine became the first Tampa Bay pitcher to win four games in April and tied the team record for wins in any month.

at Boston 2, Toronto 1: Manny Ramirez just beat the tag on Jason Varitek's single to center field in the ninth inning, giving the Red Sox their second straight win in their last at-bat. Center fielder Vernon Wells had thrown out Jed Lowrie at home on the previous play.

Detroit 6, at New York 2: Placido Polanco homered twice and Marcus Thames also homered off Andy Pettitte (3-3) to help the Tigers to their seventh win in nine games after their start. Jeremy Bonderman (2-2) pitched into the eighth inning, retiring 12 in a row at one point.

at Texas 11, Kansas City 9: Josh Hamilton capped a torrid April with his first career grand slam and the Rangers hit a season-high five home runs. Kevin Millwood (2-2) gave up five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings as he picked up his first victory since April 10.

at Minnesota 4, Chicago 3: Justin Morneau's two-out RBI double in the seventh inning lifted the Twins. Nick Blackburn (2-1) gave the Twins consecutive victories by starting pitchers for the first time in 18 days.

at Cleveland 8, Seattle 3: Grady Sizemore homered to lead off a game for the 12th time in the Indians' three-run first inning. Cleveland put the game away with a five-run fifth. Victor Martinez's hitting streak reached 12.

at Angels 6, Oakland 1: Ervin Santana (5-0) remained unbeaten in six starts.
