Pistons reel in the 76ers

May 02, 2008|From the Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers got the Detroit Pistons' attention. Then they got steamrollered.

The Pistons powered into the second round of the playoffs by crushing Philadelphia, 100-77, Thursday, winning the best-of-seven series, 4-2, with their second straight rout.

The Pistons will play the visiting Orlando Magic on Saturday in the opener of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

"Philadelphia probably woke us up," Detroit Coach Flip Saunders said. "Over the last 10 quarters we've executed as well as we can."

Richard Hamilton made his first five shots and Detroit held the 76ers without a field goal for nearly the first six minutes in taking a 30-12 first-quarter lead. Hamilton had 13 of his 24 points in the first quarter.

Andre Iguodala scored 16 points for the 76ers.

"We came prepared, we came ready, but they were on such another level," 76ers center Samuel Dalembert said.
