'Portrait of Ten Women' at Breath of Fire Latina Theatre Ensemble

TOPICAL, AS USUAL

Earlier this season, the Santa Ana-based Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble presented "14," a play that dealt with immigrant issues. This Friday, they continue the social theme with "Portrait of Ten Women," based on the testimonies of women infected with HIV or AIDS and culled by playwright Fanny Garcia from her time as a caseworker. "It's not so much about AIDS . . . it's more about the shame," says Breath of Fire artistic director Sara Guerrero, who compares "Portrait" to "The Vagina Monologues." "These women are your grandmother, your mother, your friend, a co-worker, any and everybody, regardless of being Latina," she continues.

". . . Each character brings a little something different to the table." Opens 8 p.m. Fri., runs 8 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 4 p.m. Sun., ends June 7. 310 W. 5th St. (2nd floor), Santa Ana. $15. (714) 540-1157; www.myspace.com/boft
