The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:
Casey L. Casanova, 22, of McComb, Miss.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Casanova was among four Marines killed May 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Iraq's Anbar province, west of Baghdad. A field radio operator, she was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.
Alex D. Gonzalez, 21, of Mission, Texas; specialist, Army. Gonzalez was killed Tuesday when his vehicle was attacked with small-arms fire and a rocket-propelled grenade in Mosul, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 43rd Combat Engineer Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Jeremy R. Gullett, 22, of Greenup, Ky.; specialist, Army. Gullett was one of two soldiers killed Wednesday when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Sabari, Afghanistan, southeast of Kabul. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
Miguel A. Guzman, 21, of Norwalk; corporal, Marine Corps. Guzman was among four Marines killed May 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Iraq's Anbar province, west of Baghdad. An organizational automotive mechanic, he was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.
Corey L. Hicks, 22, of Glendale, Ariz.; private, Army. Hicks was killed May 2 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Mary J. Jaenichen, 20, of Temecula, Calif.; specialist, Army. Jaenichen died Friday of noncombat-related injuries in Iskandariya, Iraq, south of Baghdad. She was assigned to the Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.
James F. Kimple, 21, of Carroll, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Kimple was among four Marines killed May 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Iraq's Anbar province, west of Baghdad. A maintenance management specialist, he was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.
