Rafael Furcal goes on DL for Dodgers
DODGERS REPORT
Shortstop, who has missed the team's last five games because of lower back pain, was moved to the 15-day disabled list but could rejoin the team on May 21.
Rafael Furcal, who has missed the Dodgers' last five games because of lower back pain, has been moved to the 15-day disabled list, his agent, Paul Kinzer, said Monday.
Furcal, who is third in the majors in hitting with a .366 average, didn't travel with the Dodgers to Milwaukee, where they will start a three-game series on Tuesday. The move is retroactive to May 6 and Furcal will be eligible to be activated for the Dodgers' home game against Cincinnati on May 21.
Furcal said on Sunday that the pain he was feeling was similar to the pain he felt last September that forced him to miss 12 games. He added that he didn't know when he would be able to return to the field.
"This is the type of thing where it feels fine one day and it doesn't the next," he said.
The Dodgers are expected to replace Furcal on the active roster with utility infielder Luis Maza, who is hitting .402 for triple-A Las Vegas. Maza, 27, has never played in the majors. He can play second, third, short, as well as the three outfield positions.
