San Pedro's bumpy ride: Tires slashed on dozens of cars
The vandalism, which occurred Friday, appears to have been random, police say.
Vandals randomly slashed the tires of dozens of vehicles in San Pedro, authorities said today.
Los Angeles police said they still don't know how many cars were targeted during the spree last Friday. But Anthony Loretto, assistant store manager at America's Tire Co. on Western Avenue, said about 60 customers come in to his shop to replace their tires.
"Some had two, others had all four" slashed, Loretto said. "Our parking lot was jammed with tow trucks Friday and Saturday."
LAPD spokesman Richard French said the vandalism appeared to be random and there were no arrests or description of the suspect or suspects involved.
"Some guy must have thought it was funny. but it wasn't to many of our customers who waited two to three hours for new tires," Loretto said.
It wasn't the only vandalism spree last Friday, authorities said.
The windows of more than 50 cars were shot out with a BB or pellet gun in attacks on parked vehicles in Azusa and Glendora, authorities said. It had occurred around the same time as last year, but officers had no further information on suspects or motives in that case as well.
