Daughter arrested in Bellflower man's death

L.A. County sheriff's deputies found the 85-year-old man's decomposed body in his backyard.

A 58-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of killing her father, whose body was discovered in the backyard of his Bellflower home, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said today.

Deputies went to the home in the 9800 block of Potter Street near Liggett Street on Monday afternoon to check on an 85-year-old man, a sheriff's spokesman said.

When they arrived, deputies were greeted by the man's daughter. A search of the property turned up the body of the elderly man in the backyard. The daughter was subsequently arrested, sheriff's officials said.

Coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey said the body of the man, whose identity was withheld pending official identification, was "skeletonized" and covered with debris, including bedding, cardboard and chicken wire.

The man "could have been dead for months," Harvey said.
