NIGHT LINES
Ecco, an eco-friendly lounge, the Forty Deuce space, Citizen Smith
NIGHT LINES
Ever get the feeling that everything’s gone “green” in Los Angeles? Hollywood nightclub Tokio is hoping to be the first ecologically correct bar on the proverbial block, changing its name to Ecco in July (pictured, a rendering). The Cahuenga Boulevard “ultra lounge” is remodeling this month to transform the Asian-themed bar into “Hollywood’s first eco-friendly lounge.” Ecco promises free valet for hybrid owners and will even have waterless urinals. “If we can help be a small part of this movement, then why not?” says Ecco co-owner Danny B (David Stratton is his partner in the endeavor). The transformation will be captured by Discovery Channel cameras. Ecco is featured on the network’s new “Planet Green” channel on a show called “The Alter Eco,” hosted by actor Adrian Grenier. But before you go thinking Ecco will be some sort of lush paradise for green-obsessed yuppies, remember that longtime local promoter Danny B loves dance music, and his crowd may not change too much… . Magnolia and the Bar co-owner Ron Marino has taken over the Forty Deuce space on Melrose Avenue. Marino plans to open his first bar without longtime partner Laurie Mulstay. The venue will probably be called Oliver’s and feature the design of Spacecraft’s Kris Keith. Look for a mid-’60s feel at the former burlesque mainstay. The swinging bachelor-pad-of-a-bar may open as early as September… . Finally, the Thompson Beverly Hills Hotel’s rooftop bar, ABH, will open in June after months of delays. A Gucci soiree is among the first booked at the destination.
