at Oakland 8, Boston 3: Frank Thomas hit a two-run homer and Mark Ellis hit a three-run shot as the Athletics ended a winning streak by the Red Sox at seven games. Rich Harden (3-0) didn't give up a hit until Dustin Pedroia's homer with one out in the fourth on the way to winning his second consecutive start.

Minnesota 9, at Detroit 4: Kevin Slowey pitched seven shutout innings and Mike Lamb homered for the Twins. The Tigers' Armando Galarraga again struggled with his control, walking five batters in six innings. Dontrelle Willis, who had a knee injury, returned from a stint on the disabled list to pitch an inning of relief for the Tigers.

at New York 13, Seattle 2: Andy Pettitte struck out nine to win for the first time in more than a month, Shelley Duncan hit a go-ahead, three-run homer and the Yankees had an eight-run fifth inning.

at Toronto 7, Kansas City 1: Marco Scutaro matched a career high with four runs batted in, and the Blue Jays handed the Royals their fifth consecutive loss. Roy Halladay retired 22 of the last 23 batters. Scutaro is batting .365 since taking over at shortstop after David Eckstein and John McDonald were injured May 6.

at Tampa Bay 2, Baltimore 0: Matt Garza took a four-hitter into the eighth inning and Carl Crawford broke a scoreless tie with a fifth-inning single to help the Rays beat the Orioles. Tampa Bay closer Troy Percival worked the ninth inning for his 14th save in 16 opportunities.

Texas 13, at Cleveland 9: Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit the first grand slam of his career to help the Rangers hand the Indians their seventh loss in a row.

Angels 3, at Chicago 1: The Angels ended a winning streak by the White Sox at eight games.
