Did Fisher foul Barry at the end of Game 4? Readers respond.
GAME 4: THE NON-CALL
Maybe it was the perfect call, maybe not. Depends on your point of view. Some e-mailers to The Times make their cases.
As a Spurs fan living in L.A., I have to say the Lakers are the best in the West, maybe the best in the NBA, but if there is any question that the NBA isn't rigged all you have to do is look at the last two seconds of Game 4 and it becomes clear that the referees were not about to let the Spurs pull it out of the fire. As a former pro player, that had to be the most blatant foul I have ever seen. Barry should have had the opportunity to win the game or at least send it into overtime. David Stern does not want the Spurs to win the West again because it is just too small of a market and the NBA is ALL ABOUT MONEY.

Technically speaking, the old Spurs nemesis "Mr. 0.4" DID foul Brent Barry at the end of Game 4. BUT the other Spurs nemesis, "Mr. Smiley" (Joey Crawford), made the no-call that both Coach Pop and Barry agreed was correct and valid.
The Lakers barely got out of Dodge with the win and "probably" will take the championship at Staples in Game 5.

------ I've seen NBA officials make bad calls before in league finals. But never like I witnessed in Game 4. The officiating was not to be believed. Were the refs in San Antonio's pocket? The Lakers were being penalized for blinking with the wrong eyebrow while the Spurs could physically commit mayhem and no penalty was assessed. At least 10 San Antonio points should be credited to the refs for making incredible foul calls against L.A. Even Phil Jackson during an on-air interview credited them for allowing the Spurs to get back into the game. The only thing that mattered, however, was their non-call against Derek Fisher with less than 2 seconds left when Fisher collided with Barry, thereby preventing a three-point shot or free throws that would have won it for the Spurs. Thanks, refs, for your evenhandedness when the game was on the line. JH Deutsch Hermosa Beach
