at Tampa Bay 2, Chicago 1: Cliff Floyd lined a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the AL East-leading Rays a victory over the White Sox. Floyd's fourth homer of the season came against Scott Linebrink (2-1) and ended a stretch in which the White Sox bullpen had not given up an earned run in 28 innings.

Cleveland 5, at Kansas City 4: Grady Sizemore homered twice and made a game-saving catch for the final out as the Indians handed the Royals their 12th consecutive loss. Before the game, the Indians put designated hitter Travis Hafner, who is batting .217, on the 15-day disabled list because of a sore right shoulder.

New York 6, at Minnesota 5: Bobby Abreu tripled twice and scored all four times he reached base, and Mike Mussina (8-4) got his seventh victory in his last eight starts despite giving up four runs in the first inning. The Yankees' Mariano Rivera got his 14th save in as many tries by pitching a scoreless ninth.

at Texas 3, Oakland 1: In his first start since coming off the disabled list, Kevin Millwood gave up one run through six innings and rookie Brandon Boggs drove in all three runs for the Rangers.

Detroit 7, at Seattle 4: Curtis Granderson singled and doubled in the first inning, when the Tigers scored all of their runs. Brandon Inge had a two-run triple.

Boston 5, at Baltimore 2 (13 innings): Manny Ramirez, bidding for his 500th home run, was one for six but scored the go-ahead run in the 13th.

Toronto 10, at Angels 4: Dustin McGowan (4-4) won for the first time in seven road starts this season.
