Signaling glitch delays Metrolink

November 05, 2008|James Wagner

A signaling malfunction Tuesday delayed Metrolink trains throughout Southern California for about six hours, officials said.

The problem was traced to a data transmission line that connects the Metrolink dispatch center to a mountaintop radio-control station, said Francisco Oaxaca, a Metrolink spokesman.

Delays of 35 to 75 minutes began about 7 a.m. and ended about 1 p.m., Oaxaca said. The ripple effects caused some trains to run behind schedule into the evening. The number of passengers affected was not available, but the delays hit the entire system, Oaxaca said.
