Alabama takes top spot in Bowl Championship Series standings
The rankings of the top nine schools remain the same, including USC at No. 6.
Talk about holding your positions.
Alabama remained No. 1 in today's release of the Bowl Championship Series standings and USC held firm at No. 6.
In fact, the top nine schools in this week's standings remained the same.
The only change was Ohio State moving into the No. 10 position ahead of Georgia.
Alabama, which improved to 11-0 after its win over Mississippi State, held the top spot with a BCS average of .9787. The Crimson Tide is followed by Texas Tech (.9698), Texas (.8911), Florida (.8755) and Oklahoma (.8388).
USC stayed at 6th, followed by Utah, Penn State, Boise State and Ohio State.
There is potential for a big BCS shake-up next week, however, as Texas Tech plays at Oklahoma, BCS No. 14 Brigham Young visits Utah, and Penn State hosts BCS No. 15 Michigan State.
Oregon State, which is 7-3 and two wins from earning its first Rose Bowl trip since the 1964 season, made its first appearance in the BCS standings this year, checking in today at No. 21. The only other Pac-10 school in the BCS top 25 is Oregon, at No. 24.
There are three weeks left in the regular season, with the final BCS standings release on Dec. 7 determining which two schools will play for the national title on Jan. 8 in South Florida.
