Six people are injured in the predawn collision on Highway 126 in Santa Paula. The boy's mother is under arrest on suspicion of DUI.
A 4-year-old boy was killed and six people were injured after a traffic collision this morning on Highway 126 in Santa Paula.
Lucia Cardoza, 24, had her two children in the back seat of her car when she swerved across traffic, hit a metal guardrail, then swung back into traffic and was struck by a van at about 2:30 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
The boy was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Cardoza was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, and she and her 1-year-old child were taken to Ventura County Medical Center, authorities said.
Maria Rangel, the driver of the van, and her three passengers suffered minor injuries.
