Elgin Baylor leaving the Clippers

The NBA legend's long stay in the team's front office ends. Coach Mike Dunleavy to assume general manager's duties.
NBA legend Elgin Baylor's long reign in the Clippers' front office has ended, and Coach Mike Dunleavy will also assume the position of general manager.
"Basically, the team came to me just recently and said that Elgin was retiring and they wanted me to assume those duties," Dunleavy told The Times on Tuesday afternoon.
The team has not made an official announcement and club officials were not available to discuss Baylor's situation today. But Baylor, 74, made it clear in a brief telephone interview that the parting was less than amicable.
"There is a dispute, and on the advice of my attorney they did not want me to discuss it," Baylor said. "That's all I can say."
Neither of Baylor's two attorneys could be reached for immediate comment.
Baylor had been the Clippers' vice president of basketball operations and general manger since 1986. Neil Olshey, the team's director of player personnel, will be the assistant general manager, Dunleavy said.
