Man crushed by big rig near Santa Fe Springs
Police say the parked semi inexplicably shifted into gear and rolled over the 30-year-old man early today.
A 30-year-old man was crushed to death today when a parked big rig inexplicably shifted into gear and rolled over him in the unincorporated area of Los Nietos near Santa Fe Springs, authorities said.
Firefighters found the victim under the rear of the big rig, trapped underneath the tractor tires, said Fire Inspector Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The 2:30 a.m. accident occurred at 8409 Pioneer Boulevard just north of Slauson Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.
CHP and county fire officials said they were not sure why the man was under the truck, and they could not confirm if he was the truck driver. The victim, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The portion of the street where the accident occurred is a strip commonly used by truck drivers as a place to park their semis.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident was asked to call the CHP's Santa Fe Springs office at (562) 868-0503.
