Saints…34 Raiders…3
New Orleans quarterback completes 87% of his throws and passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns in rout of Oakland Raiders.
NEW ORLEANS – Drew Brees put on a clinic JaMarcus Russell would be wise to study.
Connecting on 87% of his throws, Brees passed for 320 yards and three touchdowns, and the Saints routed the Oakland Raiders, 34-3.
Oakland’s Tom Cable spent his NFL head coaching debut watching in frustration as Russell completed only 13 of 35 passes for 159 yards, with one interception and a fumble.
Reggie Bush scored two touchdowns on a three-yard run and 15-yard reception. His reception for 21 yards in the first quarter gave him 200 catches through the first 34 games of his career, tying him with Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin as the quickest NFL players to reach 200 receptions.
In addition to an interception by cornerback Jason David, Russell had four other incompletions that were nearly picked off.
Quoteworthy: “We knew the type of pass rush this defense could bring. I felt like we held most of those guys at bay.” – Drew Brees, Saints quarterback
