Man arrested in '96 Tucson killing

October 18, 2008|From the Associated Press

An Arizona official said a California man has been arrested on a murder charge stemming from the 1996 car bombing of a Tucson businessman.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Ronald Young was arrested Friday in Yorba Linda.

The 66-year-old is facing charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Dupnik said the former wife of victim Gary Triano is wanted on the same charges, but Pamela Phillips may be out of the country.

Triano died when a pipe bomb ripped through his car in November 1996.

Police had said Young and Phillips were suspects in the death.

Dupnik said Phillips hoped to collect a $2-million life insurance policy and recruited Young to plant the bomb.
