Champion Viswanathan Anand of India is routing challenger Vladimir Kramnik of Russia, 4 1/2 -1 1/2 , in their 12-game world championship in Bonn. Anand won the third and fifth games as Black and the sixth as White.

The match continues with games at 6 a.m. PDT today, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If the score reaches 6-6, the players will break the tie with rapid games next Sunday.

Russian Championship

Grandmasters Evgeny Alekseev, Dmitry Jakovenko and Peter Svidler shared first place in the Russian Championship. The 12-player round robin featured 11 players ranked among the world's top 100. Alexander Morozevich tied for fourth place and will lose about eight rating points, dropping him from second to fifth in the world.

The Los Angeles Open will be held next weekend at the Airport Hilton, 5711 W. Century Blvd. in Los Angeles. Players may opt for the two-day schedule (three games Saturday, two Sunday) if they do not want to play on Halloween.
