Circus tigers escape blaze

October 28, 2008|Times Wire Reports

Three Siberian tigers leaped to safety through a wall of fire on a burning truck when ordered by their circus ringmaster, the circus owner said.

The tigers drew on their experiences of leaping through fiery rings during performances to escape a fire while traveling between shows in northwestern Germany, owner Daniel Renz said.

Circus workers were on hand to round up the tigers from the highway, which police closed to traffic.

Rescuers saved three other tigers left behind in the truck during the fire, which apparently was caused by an overheated suspension, Renz said.
