Starbucks sees hint of bottom

BUSINESS BRIEFING / COFFEE

October 30, 2008|times wire services

Starbucks Corp. said October same-store sales in the U.S. might suggest that declines have "bottomed out."

Customer visits and sales at stores open at least 13 months didn't decrease this month as fast as they had in the Seattle-based company's fiscal fourth quarter, which ended in September, Chief Executive Howard Schultz said. He didn't specify the pace of the decline in the quarter.
