Resource list: responsible drinking
* Parents can learn about a college's alcohol policy at the school's website or at College Drinking, which lists policies by school.
"You can find out what the policy is if a student is caught using alcohol, or if the parents will be notified if an underage student is caught," says Laura Dean-Mooney, president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Her organization has educational information for parents on its website.
* The federal government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has advice for parents on talking to their children about drugs and alcohol.
* And students can get information on alcohol's effects, and some tips on how to turn down drinking invitations, at an interactive website aimed at young college students, Alcohol 101.
