Deputies search for man who shot 11 in Mira Loma bar

The gunman opened fire early Friday morning after being kicked out, Riverside sheriff's officials say. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies searched Saturday for a man who opened fire with a shotgun in a Mira Loma bar early Friday morning, striking 11 people and seriously wounding some, authorities said.

The incident began after the gunman, along with four friends, was kicked out of Las Copas bar in the 5100 block of Etiwanda Ave. for causing a disturbance. On his way out, he threatened a security guard, sheriff's officials said.

Witnesses told deputies that the man returned half an hour later and began shooting patrons and security guards. One armed security officer fired back, authorities said.

Some victims were seriously hurt in the shooting, which took place shortly before 1:15 a.m., but none of the injuries were life-threatening, authorities said in a statement. Their identities and conditions were not released.

"It's definitely an unfortunate event," said Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela. "That is the reason we're determined to locate the suspect and bring him to justice."

The man fled before deputies arrived.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jurupa Station Investigations Bureau at (951) 955-2600.
