September 08, 2008|From the Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Carlos Delgado hit two home runs and drove in four runs to back up left-hander Johan Santana and the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-3, Sunday night to earn a split of a doubleheader.

The National League East leaders salvaged the finale of the three-game series, giving them a two-game lead over second-place Philadelphia.

In the first game, a makeup of Saturday's rainout, 45-year-old left-hander Jamie Moyer (13-7) gave up only two soft singles in seven shutout innings and Greg Dobbs hit a three-run home run against Pedro Martinez to lead the Phillies, 6-2.

In the second game, Santana (13-7) gave up two runs and five hits and struck out six in 7 1/3 innings.

Ryan Howard's home run in the third cut Philadelphia's deficit to 3-2 and made him the first Phillies player with three 40-homer seasons in a row.
