* at Houston 3, Pittsburgh 2: Pinch-hitter Mark Saccomanno hit a home run in the fifth inning on the first pitch he saw in the major leagues to lead the Astros. Saccomanno became the fourth Astro to hit a home run in his first big league plate appearance.

* Cincinnati 5, at Milwaukee 4: Jeff Keppinger's double capped a three-run, ninth-inning rally against closer Salomon Torres (6-5), which shrunk the Brewers' lead in the National League wild-card race to three games over Philadelphia with 18 games to play.
